2nd Joint BMS-BGSMath Junior Meeting (Berlin on June 26-28)

The Junior Meetings were launched in October 2017, with the first edition held in Barcelona, to create strong scientific exchange, strengthen research collaboration between the respective maths communities, and enhance the multicultural environment of both graduate schools.

UPCOMING EVENTS

An Invitation to p-adic Methods in Number Theory

Since their introduction by Kurt Hensel in 1897, p-adic numbers have become ubiquitous in number theory, as they provide a way to use analytic techniques in arithmetic problems. These play a key role in most of modern results in number theory, such as Fermat’s Last Theorem, the known cases of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, or the proof of the Sato-Tate conjecture. These lectures, aimed at a broad audience, aim to introduce several techniques that illustrate their power.

Dates: starting the week of the 23rd of March, 2020.

Poisson processes: Stochastic Analysis, Malliavin-Stein Method, and Stochastic Geometry

Poisson processes are an important class of stochastic processes featuring in many branches of probability theory. They play a central role in stochastic geometry, where one is often interested in random geometric structures constructed from underlying Poisson processes. Examples include random tessellations, geometric random graphs, Boolean models, and random polytopes.

Days: 15, 20, 23, 27, 30 april from 10h-12h aula de seminaris, IMUB

The Maths Tree (El árbol de las matemáticas) is a joint initiative by the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society (RSME) and the Uni>ersia Foundation that collects the profiles of mathematicians throughout the Latin American and Iberian context. The mathematicians that appear are relevant for their research in Mathematics or applied Mathematics, and are role models for young mathematicians.
