Academia Programme run by ICREA seeks to foster research excellence among professors at public universities in Catalonia.

Nuria Fagella, full professor at the Universitat de Barcelona and deputy director of the Institut de Matemàtiques de la UB (IMUB), has been presented with the 2020 ICREA Academia Award by the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA).

Fagella, who is the leader of the research group in Holomorphic Dynamics at the UB and a member of the Societat Catalana de Matemàtiques (SCM), works on the field of dynamical systems, mainly in two lines; dynamics of entire transcendental maps and quasi-conformal surgery. She also recently received a Chern Professorship at MSRI (U. Berkeley).

These grants, bestowed annually since 2008, recognize the research career of the teaching staff members that carry out their activities in some of the Catalan public universities and provide the winners, all of them professors at public universities in Catalonia, with a substantial research grant for a period of five years.

The ICREA recognition is a seal of quality and excellence in research and, since its creation, has awarded aids to a total of 274 members of the teaching staff of Catalan universities.
