Gladston Duarte

Biosketch

"I was born in 1990 in Petrópolis - RJ, Brazil. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 2013 – under the supervision of Valéria Mattos da Rosa (DM-UFJF) – and one in Computer Science in 2014 – under the supervision of Felipe Loureiro (DCC-UFJF) -, both in the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. In 2014 I moved to Rio de Janeiro to do my master’s degree in the Mathematics Institue of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, which I obtained in 2016 under the supervision of Stefanella Boatto (IM-UFRJ) and Teresinha Stuchi (IF-UFRJ).

During my undergraduate I started to study celestial mechanics, as part of a reserch grant for undergraduate students, which ended in my term papers, both in Mathematics (an application of Melnikov’s method to some celestial mechanics problems) and in Computer Science (a numerical study of a specific configuration of the Three-Body Problem). 

For my master’s degree, I studied celestial mechanics in curved spaces, applying analytical and numerical methods to discover/compute/classify/ catalogue dynamical objects in the Two-Body Problem over the surface of an infinite cylinder. 

In December 2016 I started working under the supervision of Àngel Jorba (FMI-UB) in the dynamics of the comet 39P/Oterma, where the idea is to justify and understand, more in a quantitative way, its dynamics based in the dynamical objects (periodic/quasi-periodic orbits, tori, invariant manifolds, etc.) computed for some models in celestial mechanics.
