The Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics (BGSMath), Unit of Excellence Maria de Maeztu (MdM), launches a Call for four master internship grants, aiming to attracting master students to carry out their master thesis project in a BGSMath group. The master internship grants will provide an opportunity to gain early research experience and a first step into a scientific career.

Candidates should be enrolled in the academic year 2018-2019 in one of the following master programs:

  • Advanced Mathematics (UB)
  • Advanced Mathematics and Mathematical Engineering (UPC)
  • Modelling for Science and Engineering (UAB)
  • Statistics and Operational Research (UPC+UB)

Grants consist of a monthly stipend of 1000 euros (gross salary) from 1st March to 1st June 2019 to the successful candidates while performing their Master thesis in one of the MdM Unit Groups, with an average dedication of 20 h/week during this period. Additionally, the students will be asked to participate in some BGSMath scientific activities and complementary training courses.

The BGSMath Master Internships are funded by the project Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence (MdM-2014-0445; Spanish Government).

Offers will be made to up to four successful candidates by 15 February 2019.

Requirements
  •  Candidates must have obtained a university degree or hold an official university qualification from a country of the European Higher Education Area, from 180 to 240 ECTS of official university studies at the time of deadline. The requested minimum average grade is 8.0.
  • Good working knowledge of English.
  • High motivation to be involved in scientific research.
  • A project of the master thesis (maximum one page) together with a supervision commitment signed by a faculty member of the BGSMath.
How to apply

Applications for the BGSMath Maria de Maeztu Master Internship Programme are accepted exclusively online through our recruitment system and must be prepared in English.

Fill out the online application form with contact data.
In the field “Current Status”, please provide the name and the university of the master program in which you are enrolled.
In the field “Student”, please provide the name of your academic BSc or equivalent, University from which you obtained your degree, and date of completion.

Please upload all the required documents as one PDF file of less than 10 MB.

The application will include the following information:

  • Cover letter explaining the applicant’s research interests and motivation (maximum 1 page), as well as who will be supervising your Master project thesis.
  • Master thesis´s project proposal (maximum 1 page) together with a supervision commitment signed by your supervisor-to-be ( faculty member of the BGSMath).
  • Scanned Certified Academic Record, showing the grades obtained (degree). If these are not in Catalan, Spanish or English, applicants should attach a translation in one of these languages.
  • Name, affiliation and email of one member of an academic institution able to provide a letter of reference. This may include the master thesis supervisor. Only letters with official letterhead and signature will be accepted. The BGSMath office will contact the suggested referees. However, we strongly recommend applicants to inform your referees that his/her letter must be uploaded before 4 February 2019.

 

Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

Evaluation process

Evaluation of candidates will be done on the basis of their academic records, master thesis project, and overall academic merits.

The results will be published by 15 February 2019.
